We are looking forward to a visit to Paris in early July and do want to visit Versailles while we are there.
To avoid the long queues of summer visitors we would like to buy our tickets before leaving Australia.
However we are having enormous difficulty in securing two entry tickets to the Chateau and gardens.
Phone calls from Australia to the Chateau have failed.
(Recorded messages only).
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Perhaps there is a website where we can purchase tickets on line?
Rila.

You can get them here:
http://www.francebillet.com/?_lang=en
or here:
Or you can wait till you get to France and go to any FNAC store in Paris and buy them at the ticket counter. FNAC stores are all over Paris so your hotel should be able to guide you to the closest one.

What you could also do is buy a %26quot;forfait loisir%26quot;, on the day of your visi, at the RER train station. The forfait loisir is basically a package pass combining the return train ticket to Versailles and the chateau entrance, sold in RER train stations (entrance to the state apartments and other parts of the chateau).
It%26#39;s also available for a selection of major sights in the Paris region. You will not have to stand in line. Note that lines can be awfully long at Versailles.
If you can read some French see :
www.transilien.com/FR/TouVers.htm (at least you can have an idea of the prices, which vary according to the tariff zone where your point of departure is located)
%26quot;Transilien%26quot; is the %26quot;brand name%26quot; of the Paris region mass transit system. Their website (www.transilien), which has a section in English, and gives you the train schedules). The RER train trip from Paris to station Versailles Rive Gauche (station closest to the Chateau) lasts about 30-40 minutes. Trains to Versailles run every 20 minutes on the RER C line.

When you order your tickets online from FNAC, I know there is an extra 10E charge for postage to have the tickets mailed to the US, so I would imagine it would be at least that much to Melbourne. It%26#39;s really easy to visit an FNAC store in Paris, and/or, take advantage of the Forfaits Loisirs Trudaine mentions. Part of the Chateau is also included with the Paris Museum Pass (www.parismuseumpass.com), which can also be purchased at FNAC, among other places, so if you%26#39;ve already planned to purchase that pass, you may not need an additional ticket for Versailles.

Hello Trudaine and ArrowCapet
We really value your knowledge and advice.
The best idea, it would seem, would to be to buy our tickets from the FNAC on our arrival in Paris.
thank you so much
