We are in Paris 13-19 June in 13th arr. at Place d%26#39;Italie. Can anyone recommend a place to buy two relatively cheap cell phones. We prefer to buy, since we%26#39;ll be back.
Thanks as usual!

If you know exactly what you want, eBay is the cheapest. But you have to feel comfortable with eBay (I think there is some security in using PayPal).

I should have explained: no time for eBay, b/c we leave for London on June 3. Any suggestions?

Well, since you%26#39;re leaving so soon, I%26#39;ll venture another reply. The cost of a good cell phone that you%26#39;re going to keep (times two since you%26#39;re buying two) might be cheaper here just because the rate of exchange is against the dollar right now.
Did you want to buy the phone in France.?The cheapest phones on FNAC.com (electronics store) are Internet specials. I saw one offered for 99 euros. Unless you are totally comfortable in French, I think it%26#39;s problematic to wade through the process of buying a phone to use in France IN France.
Mobalrental.com offers a mobal world phone for $49 with FedEx delivery the next day for $30. But you have to use their service (says that it works in over 140 countries but not in the U.S.)
Given that there are so many companies (Orange is another and I haven%26#39;t looked at their site), wouldn%26#39;t it be easier to see what%26#39;s offered here from Cingular or some other provider in the way of a tri- or quad-band phone that you use with a prepaid card instead of signing up for service (in other words, as a go-phone) - and that you can then use to sign up for international service when you go abroad? I don%26#39;t really know how this works but it%26#39;s just a suggestion.
If you use the search box at the top of the forum and put in %26#39;cellphone %26#39; or %26#39;cell phone%26#39;, I think you%26#39;ll get a lot of information. Or maybe someone will just chime in with the perfect solution - from France.
By the way, did you mention where you are staying because you were looking for something in the neighborhood there? If that%26#39;s the case, maybe the hotel concierge (who let%26#39;s hope speaks English fairly well) could suggest a phone boutique.

I assume you are looking for prepaid phones.
From the network SFR : Starts from Nokia 1600 or Alcatel OT-E256 - 59 Euro www.espacesfr.com and choose MOBILES AVEC SFR LA CARTE in the %26quot;ACCESS DIRECT%26quot; drop down.
Similar pricing is available on other networks. These phones can be bought at any phone store on every street corner. But if you go to corporate network stores, you are more likely to get the staff to set up your phone, and possibly set up English voice prompts when you call in for recharge and what-not.
Lots of cheap phones are available in London, including unlocked ones(which are what you want, and can be used in France and you only have to buy a French SIM card for 25 Euro). If I am not mistaken, phones sold in France are locked, and if you buy from SFR, you can only use SFR service, for example.

phones from mobalrental are cheap to buy but expensive to use. Those you buy in France are inexpensive to use, while in France. An unlocked phone (from eBay or London) is expensive to buy, but cheap to use, worldwide.
