My family of 5 is sailing into LeHavre in July. What is the best means of transportation from port to the beaches of Normandy? We only have one day and want to see the Beaches and Museum. This is priority for our 3 week trip of Europe.
We have to back to port by 6:00 pm. All the cruise tours are full.

How about a renting a car and driving over the the landing beaches? That%26#39;s probably your best bet, although you could look for tours that leave from Le Havre. However, with a car you could arrange your own schedule and be sure of getting back before your ship sails.
The driving distance from Le Havre to Caen is about 890 km via the autoroute--probably a little over an From Caen the beaches are another 50 km, again on the autoroute Seeing the museum and the beaches will take most of the day, and you%26#39;d need to leave no later than 4:00 p.m. to be sure of returning in time for your ship%26#39;s sailing.
You could also take the train to Caen and rent a car there, but I don%26#39;t know whether than would actually save you all that much time, and with five people a car might be cheaper.

The distance is 80.00 km, not 890. Don%26#39;t know where that 9 came from.

Thank you for your information. I wonder if the train station is close to port or if we can get a taxi to the station? I know if we get to Caen we can arrange a tour of the beaches and museum from there.

I%26#39;m afraid the train idea is probably not going to work for you. The problem is that Le Havre and Caen are on two different lines so you have to go first to Rouen and then change trains there for Caen. The fastest trip time is probably over 2.5 hours and trains will not be frequent.

Another possibility might be to contact the tour operator you mentioned in Caen and see if they have any useful suggestions. Or try

I googled it and found the reference on the Normandie-Tourisme web site but the link to %26quot;The Memorial%26quot; (of whom I have never heard) appears to be dead. So I don%26#39;t think that moves us any further forward.
You could email the Office de Tourisme at Le Havre and ask them for information on getting to Caen by bus - or just email the people I already mentioned or the tour operator you had mentioned (without naming) in Caen.
Just as a matter of interest, when do you dock at Le Havre?

We will be docking on a Saturday in July.
