vrbo

I asked this at the end of another thread also but on second thought, I%26#39;ll just open up a new topic and add some more to my question.

I%26#39;m considering renting a place with VRBO and was wondering if anyone could help me out with what kind of precautions I should take and what the process should be i.e. what questions to ask, etc. I%26#39;ve never rented an apt before and so am anxious to cover all bases. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Also, could someone tell me if the Place de la Nation is a good area or dodgy or what kind? Thanks.

Most of the area around Place de Nation is fine. It once was a %26quot;transitional%26quot; neighborhood, but like most of the eastern districts of Paris, it has become more and more popular with young bourgeois families.

When you go through VRBO, you are dealing for the most part with individual owners. Ergo, every situation will be different. The main thing to remember is to make sure the owner/manager can answer all your questions to your satisfaction. If you talk with him/her and you have that feeling in the pit of your stomach, then move on to another property. You should expect to pay around 50% of the rent as a deposit at the time of the reservation, and the balance will probably be due 1-2 months before your arrival. There is likely to be a security deposit of several hundred euros.
