travel to lourdes from pau airport

i am going to lourdes for the second time. but this is the first time on a plain. please advise me what is the distance from the airport to the train station. also what are the hotels close to the sanctuary or grotto. are wheel chairs available in the hotels.

The bus service from Pau airport to the railway station runs only once a day. Taxi takes about 15 minutes. Frequent trains to Lourdes which takes about 20 minutes. Taxi from Lourdes station to the most hotels takes 5 minutes. Most htels are within easy walking distance from the sanctuary. Check www.hotels-direct-lourdes.com/en/search.phtml

Most of the bigger hotels will have a wheelchair, and you can also rent a wheel chair or a %26#39;voiture%26#39; (trishaw type chair) from the information bureau inside the domain

If you are travelling to Lourdes by yourself I would recommend going on a package deal with a company. They would book everything for you.

But if you really want to go by yourself, Lourdes Airport (Tarbes) is the nearest airport. You can get an airport bus to the centre of Lourdes from there (but check these still operate before you travel).

The hotels nearest to the Grotto, etc are the St Saveur and the Moderne. The Moderne is exceptionally large and the St Saveur is a much smaller intimate hotel. Both very nice.

Wheelchairs are available in Lourdes from the Bureau in the domain. Your hotel should help you out with ordering one.

The bus from Lourdes airport was not in operation last season which left about 20 of us stranded for alomost an hour. A taxi finally arrived and the driver contacted some colleagues to collect the rest of us. The drivers of pilgrimmage busses from the airport are reluctant to take ad hoc passengers for reasons of insurance.

I want to rectify some informations given by other users.

There is no more coach%26#39;s shuttle from Tarbes-Lourdes airport to Lourdes%26#39; city. The best way to reach Lourdes from its airport is to book a taxi. You can make a reservation at info_resa@taxi-lourdes-pyrenees.com

If you arrive at Pau%26#39;s airport don%26#39;t forget to book your taxi also. You can ask for a taxi from Lourdes. He will pick you up at your arrival and will make a transffer go and back for your assistance.
