Smart Paris on a budget

The whole family is taking my mother to Paris on 29 July for her 60th Birthday. Whilst we want somewhere very nice to stay , we need to accommodate the pockets of all those going (10 in total). Our budget is approximately ÃÃã150 per night for a room. It also needs to be central. It will be her first time in Paris, so we want to make it really special. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

First...since most Parisian hotels quote rates in €uros, you should get yourself into the habit of thinking (or at least translating from £ to €. It will make the hotel search go smoother). Presently (approx) 100 £ = 145€...125 £= 180 €....150 £= 215 €

With a hotel budget of up-to 215 €uro per night, this puts you solidly within the Paris %26#39;..3-star..%26#39; hotel range...but with an extended-family group of that size, you might also consider apartment rentals as well. For location, you probably should begin your hotel search within the %26#39;..core..%26#39; arrondissements%26#39; (think W1 Mayfair; SW1-Belgravia; SW3-South Kensington; W2-Bayswater, W8-Notting Hill EC1-City, etc). The twenty (20) arrondissement will be indicated by the last two digits of the postal code (750xx). For the most central %26#39;core%26#39; locations, check hotels in the 1eme-Louvre / Tuileries; 3eme-upper Marais; 4eme-lower Marais / Îles on the Right Bank and the upper-5eme-Latin Quarter and upper-6eme-Saint Germain des Prés on the Left Bank---on either bank, the closer to the Seine the batter. You can extend this %26#39;core%26#39; a bit to also include the 8eme-Chanps Élysées /Arc de Triompphe and the lower-9eme-Madeleine / Grand Boulevards/ Opéra on the Right Bank and the 7eme-Invalides / Ecole Militaire on the Left Bank. Anywhere within this broad area will provide you with either easy walking/strolling distances to a great many sites and attractions or quick public transportation connections. The public transportation system--Metro %26amp; buses--is excellent...but the best way to see, enjoy and experience Paris is on-foot, and a convenient LOCATION for walking / strolling is usually best.

There will be a great many good hotels, well within your price range, within this general area. We%26#39;re fond of the Left Bank neighborhoods of the upper-6eme-Saint Germain des Pres. Check out these (among others) possibilities--

And for un-editted and relatively up-to-date past guest reviews and comments, the HOTEL section at this TA site is probably the best there is.
