There will be 12 of us travelling Paris together from Wednesday to Saturday June 7-10. If you could please recommend restaurants that would be good for this size and possibly have outdoor seating. 6 adults and 6 children ranging from 11-21 years old. Doesn%26#39;t need to be cheap but not overly expensive per person.
We are staying in the 7th district near the D%26#39;Orsay. Thank you!

VickiSFloyd just arranged a TA get-together at Taverne du Sargent Recruteur. I think they take large parties, but maybe someone else can chime in. I have the impression that it%26#39;s an all-u-can-eat type place.

You could do worse than one of the Flo Brasseries. %26quot;La Coupole%26quot; in Montparnasse, for example, is huge, noisy, fun, the food is good, and the tab won%26#39;t kill you. Go to www.flobrasseries.com to learn more. You%26#39;ll hear a lot about how Parisiens are horrified that so many fine old brasseries are now part of a chain, but my own experience over the last couple years is that Balzar and Bofinger (for example) are as good as they were before the change in ownership, and maybe a bit better.

I screened for french food, 7th arrondissement, and charming terrace on cityvox.fr and it spit back at me:
Chez Francoise
aerogare des Invalides
noon-midnight
01 47 05 49 03
open mon - Sundays
live jazz on Sat night
Cafe de L%26#39;Alma
5 Avenue Rapp
noon-midnight
open mon - Sundays
01 45 51 56 74
La Cigale Recamier
4 rue Recamier
01 45 48 86 58
mon-sat 12 to 10:30 p.m.
(souffles a specialty, also traditional)
All serve French food, have charming terraces and are in the 7th.
Using via Michelin, several hotels came up on the screen with terraces for dining in the 7th around the D%26#39;Orsay: the Montalembert at 3, rue Montalembert, La Terrace Fleurie of the Westin Chain at 3 rue de Castiglione and Regina at the Regina Hotel, 2 place de Pyramides.
cityvox screens for more variables, though... including price.
I%26#39;d take a list of the information you can gather and when you arrive at your hotel, speak to the concierge. He may have more suggestions for you. Good luck!

The cafe de l%26#39;homme at the museum of the same name has a %26#39;vast terrace facing the Eiffel Tower.%26#39; The restaurant seats 150 and the menu is 40-50 euros. It%26#39;s at 17, Place du Trocadero in the 16th. phone +33 1 44 05 30 15. I mention this restaurant because it was mentioned favorably in a newsletter I read recently. It got 3 or 4 stars on cityvox and favorable reviews.
Also, there is a brasserie, La Terrace (with a terrace, of course!) at 2 Place L%26#39;Ecole Militaire. It has 200 seats. It is open after 11 p.m. at night (11- 1) but also from 6-2:00.
Across from L%26#39;Ecole Militaire is Le Tourville. One reviewer mentions that it is part of a group of restaurants that he doesn%26#39;t like (they share the same owner) but he likes this one. Other reviewers liked the milkshakes. Not worth a trip across Paris but good if you%26#39;re in the neighborhood, said another. It has 200 places and 160 of those are on the terrace. 3 euros for a black coffee, menu of 30-40 euros, brunch of 15 euros. Open Mon-Sun from 7-midnight. After 9, there%26#39;s a DJ and it%26#39;s party time so not sure if it%26#39;s still good for dining after 9. Items like %26#39;club sandwiches%26#39; are mentioned in the thumbnail sketch but I%26#39;m guessing they cost more than you would pay at home! 43 Avenue de la Motte Picquet in the 7th. +33 1 44 18 05 08.
Cityvox has a clubs, pubs and cafes category - which is where I found 12 cafes with terraces in the 7th.
In addition to Le Tourville and La Terrace, there are:
Le Comptoir du 7eme, Cafe de l%26#39;Esplanade, Cafe Varenne, Chez Ribe, Cafe Le Dome, La Tour Marbourg, Le Campanella, Le Rouquet, Le Telex and Mucha Cafe. I didn%26#39;t look in the size or number of seats of these cafes, though.
Have fun!

Thank you all so much for the advice. We are leaving on Tuesday so winding down all the details! We can%26#39;t wait!!

Chez Françoise is quite pricey and exclusive, a typical lunching haunt for MPs and diverse political lobbyists due to the proximity of the Assemblée nationale.
La Cigale Récamier is an intimate place where a big family group would feel out of place.
Yes, I think your best bet would be a brasserie. But remember: do not speak too loud. Americans have a tendency to do so even in small parties, so 12 of them...

Bob,
I only recently discovered the cafe, club, bar option on cityvox - had no idea that there were so many brasseries and bistros in there! Anyway, the outdoor seating option was what I was looking for when I ran my screen. There%26#39;s a %26#39;group%26#39; option on cityvox where restaurants specify that they welcome groups but I think you have to look at each restaurant and see how many seats the establishment has - le Music Hall looked big but pretty far-out to me from all their pictures, for example. And much fancier than the many restaurants that invite groups and students.
If you are just looking for a place that has outdoor seating, that can be found in cityvox. And the reviews tell you something about what the diner was looking for and what they found valuable. But if you%26#39;re looking for a place to kind of %26#39;kick back%26#39; American-style, I%26#39;m guessing the chain restaurants offer that - I really liked Leon de Bruxelles, for example, but I love mussels! In my mind, it%26#39;s the Pizza Hut of the Mussel-lover.
I hope there%26#39;s a helpful concierge at the hotel!

Additional info: the Mucha Cafe, 227 Boulevard Saint-Germain in the 7th (33 1 45 51 06 30) has a menu of 20 euros. Open Mon-Sat 7-2 and seats 200 people, 40 on the terrace. Dedicated to the Czech poster artist Mucha (if I understood the French correctly).
The Hotel Montalembert does have mostly chic clientele according to the thumbnail sketch, the menu is 40-65 euros and there is a dress code. It has 35 seats.
The Cafe de L%26#39;Alma has 60 seats on the terrace and a private room for 12 people. The menu is 45-65 euros.
There is Le Square at 31 rue Saint Dominique in the 7th. According to the thumbnail sketch, it has a back-to-Africa theme in the decor but the food is traditional and French. There are 80 seats and a menu of 35 euros. Mon-Sat 12-2:30 and 8-11. The reviews varied widely (5 reviews) but everyone liked the prices!

Thank you for all the information. I will print it out and bring it along on the trip so both families can look it over. We both are renting apartments so we won%26#39;t have help from the concierge but I think we should be fine! thank you!
