Near the Lourve?

Hi all!

My sister and I would be travelling to Paris end June 2006 (4 nights stay). She is an avid art lover and is definitely going to Lourve.

Which arrondissement should we stay in for easy access (within walking distance or straight buses to Lourve)? Kinda silly Q - but am I right to think we ought to stay on the same side of the river as the Lourve? Any hotels to recommend? =)

We are travelling on a budget so hope to stay within 100 Euros per room per night.

Ive found a few apartments that might fit our budget, but is unsure if it is near the Lourve , and whether the locations are safe. Ive listed the address below. Appreciate any comments! Thanks a lot!!

Apt 1: 4 rue des Lombards

Apt 2: 137 rue du Temple, Paris 75003, France

Apt 3: rue de l%26#39;arc de Triomphe, Paris 75017, France

Apt 4: 18 rue Moli鑢e?-?75001

Looking forward to da Paris experience! :P

Louvre is in the 1st arrondissement.

If Apt 4 is on rue Moliere, that is the one you should rent.

Apt 3 is too far, so is Apt 3 and Apt on rue des Lombards is on a noisy street with many bars and jazz clubs,

But guess what? Apt 4 is fully booked for my duration I am gng to Paris. *argh* hurhur. Guess I hv to restart my search once more!

Thank u again!

The apartment on rue du Temple is in a great area and I would guess only a 20 minute walk from the Louvre. The 1st arrondissement, and the 2nd which is the next closest are not characterized by a large number of small apartments and are generally pretty expensive areas.

The 6th, just across the river, is also fairly expensive, but an apartment in the lower 6th, close to the river, would be a possibility. And the western parts of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements would be at most a 20-25 minute walk from the Louvre.

But (a) there are many other wonderful art museums all over the city that your sister is probably going to want to visit and (b) the métro is a quick, inexpensive and easy way to get to almost anywhere in Paris. So why limit your search so rigidly? I think the 4th, 5th and 6th arrondissements are all more varied and more interesting places to stay than the 1st, and all very central, especially close to the river.

Hi IrishRovr. =)

Thanks for your suggestions.

I did come across many hotels in the Latin Quarter. Hotel Residence Monge, Hotel le Clement and Hotel Saint Pierre are the few I shortlisted. But didnt realise it%26#39;s in the 5th arrondissement. *smacks forehead* I will widen my search for mid range hotels to the Marais area as well.

Hotel Relais Bosquet looks really nice, and the reviews were good too. But the price is holding us back.

Located a few quaint hotels in Montmartre all the way in the 18e as well. The quietness is attractive. The location?? But as you mentioned, everywhere is accessible via Metro ya?

Any idea which arrondissement the apt on rue du Temple is in?

And you are right. My sister%26#39;s probably going to visit many diffferent museums. Definitely the Orsay as well.

Appreciate your comments!

The apartment on rue du Temple is in the 3rd arrondissement, the northern part of the Marais. That is what the last two digits of the postal code mean. 75003 is the 3rd arrondissement, 75001 is the 1st, 75017 the 17th. Similarly 75005 is the 5th (Latin Quarter, at least by some definitions), 75006 is the 6th (St. Germain des Prés) and so on.

The rue du Temple apartment is probably very close to the Arts et Métiers museum, which is a fascinating place. You can check its exact location of it or any other address in Paris by going to

www.pagesjaunes.fr

and inputting the address. Then you can call up a map showing the location and a photo (probably a bit out-of-date) of the building and the street.

Montmartre is a great area from many points of view, but with only a short visit, and your first at that, you might be better off closer to the river in the first six arrondissements.

Hi IrishRovr !

Thank you for the insight. Now I know the last 2 digits refer to the arrondissements. Apologies for asking seemingly obvious questions. Heh.

Will keep a lookout for nice hotels within the 1st - 6th arrondissements.

Unfortunately, my return flight is still on waitlist and the trip may not materalise afterall! Sob.. *cross fingers*
