Weather in Nice around Christmas??

Thinking of going to Nice with my family for Christmas. Having never been to the South of France before, I was wondering what the average temperature would be at that time of year?

Also, what are the weather conditions around that time of year?

Thanks in advance.

By Christmas the worst of the November rain is over, and late December it gives way to crisp and dry, if cool weather. The factual stats can be found on the wonderful Patrick Murris site here:

I come over every New Year, and the first few days of January have been almost without exception pure winter sun. Beach at Villefranche for a swim, January 1st, wonderful.

Temperature around 9 - 12 centigrade, more important, rich azure blue skies without the usual Summer heat-mist. Be realistic - within weeks people will be arriving for the ski-ing season back at Isola - an hours drive away.

Christmas in Nice has many charms - more important than the weather. I wrote a %26quot;blog%26quot; on Christmas in Nice at the end of last year - it%26#39;ll give you a flavour.

We were in Provence--specifically, the area around Grasse--in December of 2001, and the weather was lovely and springlike. No rain, no cold--we ate outdoors every day.

Mmmm, yes, in the Winter it can be dry and it can be sunny. However, I was there several times from November 2005 to March 2006 and to be honest the weather wasn%26#39;t really all that different from back home here in Belfast! Yes, it was often cold, wet and miserable, so I think it is only right to warn people that they do need to pack with this in mind. I have an apartment in Nice and in December and January I had all the heaters on even with double glazing.

As for swimming in December, I don%26#39;t really think so! I have been back several times over the Spring and early summer and I would say swimming was only pleasant by the end of May.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best and you won%26#39;t be caught out.

Don%26#39;t get my wrong, Nice is my favourite place in the world but I think it%26#39;s only fair to be honest!

It can be the way Andrew descibed, it can also be wet and miserable ! I was in Monaco in early January and spent a lovely 2hrs on the beach at the plaza hotel. A favoured spot and protected from the breeze. Two days later and it was awful - i could have been at home in Tynemouth !

On the whole though compared to much of Northern Europe it can be a delight in the Winter months.Just be prepared for bouts of inclement weather too.

This year i had lunch at at one of the beach cafes on 8, 9 and 10 of Jan, the sun was very strong from about 11am -3.30pm, but it soon turned chilly in the evenings and had to wear light jackets
