and I%26#39;ll send you my husband%26#39;s article on driving in France.
Relax--it%26#39;s not difficult, and Normandy isn%26#39;t hard to get around in.

Please also email information to me about sites to see in Normandy, recommended routes by car, and any hotel in Normandy that comfortably will fit 2 adults and 2 kids. Trip in August in Normandy for 5 nights. thanks

Welcome to these forums, PAQ!
Take a look through some of the previous threads and you%26#39;ll find some useful info and get an idea how the forums work.
Meantime you might want to get a copy of the Michelin guide to Normandy and the relevant regional map, also from Michelin. You will need both of these, and getting some familiarity with the geography before you leave will make your trip MUCH easier and more rewarding.
The Michelin guide also has suggested itineraries. These may not fit exactly with your timing or interests but you can adapt them.
I would suggest that you put together at least a framework of an itinerary fairly quickly and make some decisions about where you want to stay. August is the time when it seems at least half France takes its summer vacation and hotels can get pretty busy. Once you have an idea where you want to stay, you can use this site (and others) to check hotel reviews.
When you have some basic info get back with some more specific questions and I%26#39;m sure there will be people ready and able to help.
Good luck!

Hi.
It%26#39;s really straightforward to drive along the coast from, for example, St Aubin de la Mer to Arromanches. We did it on our first ever trip to France, (as did also my very timid father on his first ever visit abroad!), and we were absolutely fine.
French roads in towns are not very scary, (IMO anyway), because everyone seems to stick to the speed limits. Watch out for parking restrictions in towns.
Don%26#39;t forget to visit the cinema circulaire at Arromanches.
If you go to the peace museum at Caen, (le memorial), which I heartily recommend, watch out for the ring road around Caen. It%26#39;s not scary to drive around particularly, I just found it quite confusing. Mind you, it would have helped if we%26#39;d had directions!
Hope this helps.
