Could anyone tell me the best place to be based in Provence? Is it St. Remy? Looking for somewhere with a bit of life and we plan to travel to Nice after a couple of days.
thanks

St-Rémy is a very charming town--but I%26#39;m not sure what you mean by %26quot;with a bit of life.%26quot; If you%26#39;re after evening activities you might want to consider Avignon, Arles, or even Aix-en-Provence. Are there particular sights that you want to see? That would make a difference about where to base yourselves.

Thank you for your response. I think we decided we either stay in St Jean Cap Ferrat or St Paul de vence. Would you reccomend splitting the time - 2 days in St Paul 3 days St Jean or should we just do St Jean? Do you know if St Paul is hard to get to, we will have a car but are the roads windy and dark?
Thanks

St-Jean is a delightful place, but most of it is taken up by large estates behind walls--the residences of celebrities and others who can afford the real estate. You can walk around the peninsula, and the port is a nice place to hang out, but that%26#39;s about it.
As for getting to St-Paul, it%26#39;s not exactly straightforward. From Nice you take the road over to Cagnes-sur-Mer, then follow the signs for St-Paul; the route takes you up through C-s-M and then out on the road for Vence and St-Paul. Be careful to follow the directions to St-Paul; otherwise you%26#39;ll end up on the road to Vence, which goes across the valley from St-Paul. The road isn%26#39;t especially windy, but once you%26#39;re out of CsM it gets dark.
One problem with staying around St-Paul is that just about the only rnearby estaurants are in the village, and you need reservations.

I think St. Remy is a good choice for the Provence. From there one can easily reach Les Baux de Provence, Avignon and numerous other precious sights and memories, as well as Marseille. The little city is nice with lovely shops. I live in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. I lived on the Cap d%26#39;Antibes for 10 years and was married 32 years ago in St. Paul de Vence, it was lovely. I now avoid the south of France, too much traffic, too many tourists, people get annoyed, from Monte Carlo to St. Tropez it is bumper to bumper and one can hardly see a green tree. Antibes is nice, if you can stay at the Hotel Juana in Juan-les-Pins or at Eden Roc. Nice is a big city, with a lot of traffic on the sea. The best description of Nice would be cement and most of it not very attractive.Unless on business I avoid it like the plaque. My first visit was in 1961 at the age of 10 and even living in ANtibes, I avoided the city like the Plague.
I do wish you a nice trip even if you stay in Nice.

We booked 3 nights in St Paul De Vence and 4 nights in St Jean. Do you think 3 nights in St Paul DeVence is one too many?
It just looks so relaxing, our hotel is Le Mas DePieree which also looks beautiful. However, I guess I will have to book restaurant reservations before we leave if you say they are hard to get. I will also make sure to get there before dark
Thanks for all the advice, it really helps.
