We just ate dinner at Le Grand Colbert, the restaurant featured in Something%26#39;s Gotta Give. We had been hesitant to eat dinner there, because we found mixed reviews online.
We%26#39;ve been eating all over Paris for a week, and finally, after meeting another American couple (that frequently visits the city) who positively reviewed the restaurant, we checked it out.
IT WAS FABULOUS! The best place we%26#39;ve eaten in the city so far. A very stereotypical brasserie with excellent service. We loved it so much that we reserved a second dinner... and we are not the type to settle into one place!
Just wanted to spread the word and send them more business. Lovely lovely restaurant.

We ate at Le Grand Colbert last year and the service was so bad that our hosts, Parisians both, complained to the manager. The food was forgettable. I am glad you had a better experience.

Any restaurant where J. Nicholson had a movie dinner with D. Keaton can%26#39;t be all good - or do I mean can%26#39;t be all bad..?
Either way, something%26#39;s gotta give...

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;We just ate dinner at Le Grand Colbert,.....We had been hesitant to eat dinner there, because we found mixed reviews online%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;
For some bizarre reason, because Le Grand Colbert is well-known and popular with tourists, some seem to believe that this place is %26#39;..de facto..%26#39; bad or %26#39;..over-rated..%26#39;...never bothering to notice that the largest portion of its clientelle are local Parisiens.. While I wouldn%26#39;t go quite so far as %26#39;..fabulous..%26#39;, Le Grand Colbert is very good brasserie food, the interior decor is extrairdinary, the ambience grand, but the service varies from just okay to excellent.

KDKSail: Believe it or not, I went to Le Grand Colbert with no prior knowledge of its fame, notoriety, whatever. The service was just plain bad, not desultory, but simply awful. The food was mediocre, and I am not a food maven, just a fairly well-traveled person who has eaten all kinds of stuff. Perhaps it was just an off-night, but considering what we spent, I would not venture another off-night there again any time soon.

You can do a lot better than Le Grand Colbert

As long as it is not Le Coupe Chou!!! Now there you are that is it%26#39;s mention for this week LOL.

On the occasions we%26#39;ve dined there, I can understand why Michelin hasn%26#39;t awarded any %26#39;stars%26#39;...but having said that.....as I recall, on both occasions the dishes we ordered ranged anywhere from good-to-very good (good starts, a middle...but no finish) On both occasions the service seemed a bit frantic but the place was packed...and we were in no rush....and simply sitting in those rooms and glancing around is a pleasure.
As for Le Coup-Chou...the place is what it is. The food is good and relatively inexpensive, the service is good....and the ambience wonderful. Is it a %26#39;..great restaurant..%26#39;? Definitely not (but then some people often toss around the term %26#39;..great..%26#39; for almost anywhere that doesn%26#39;t involve a stomach pump after coffee and dessert). Every meal doesn%26#39;t have to be a grand culinary experience. Sometimes, simply good food, at reasonable prices, in a comfortable and convivial atmosphere is more than enough.
And there are times when, in the moment, a %26#39;..great meal..%26#39; may involve nothing more than a light salad, freshly baked bread, a well prepared omelette and an interesting wine at a pleasant local café on a warm summer%26#39;s evening. The sum of the experience is simply greater than its individual parts.

Thank you for the weekly mention of Le Coupe Chou, Lord Byron. Your name is certainly well-deserved. It is an honor to have you post on this board!

I see that there%26#39;s a sharp difference of opinion regarding Le Coupe Chou. If someone were willing to treat me and Mr. Shoesy to dinner there, we would definitely more be than happy to write an objective review of the place..........as long as we%26#39;re not required to eat pig trotters, that is !!!!!!!!

We stay up the street and much prefer Le Vaudeville, located across the plaza from the Bourse. Good meals, attractive decor and terrific atmosphere.
