Hi there,
Does anyone know anything about this hotel and the surrounding area, proximity to sights, safety at night, nearby restaurants etc? My husband and I will be staying there for a week in mid July (including Bastille Day)
Many Thanks,
Tasma

Great area, we stay nearby every year.
Safe at night.
Walk downhill to the seine and Notre Dame.
Walk uphill to Pantheon, rue moufetard.
Walk ...sideways...to the heart of the latin quarter.
Plenty of restaurants.
1 block from Metro - Macabre Mutilate (or somesuch)
Our friends stayed in that Hotel last October and the rooms were teeny tiny, even by Paris standards.

Jack, you%26#39;ve REEEEEAALLY got to get a metro map!! lol
The metro stop is %26quot;Maubert Mutualite%26quot;.
I imagine there are hotel reviews here in TA, since the Latin Qtr is such a popular area.
It is a very central area and you will have no problem walking around and finding places to eat. Do a %26quot;search%26quot; for %26quot;restaurants%26quot; on the forum and you%26#39;ll get a lot of ideas. Also you could refer to a %26quot;Great Eats in Paris%26#39; guide by S. Gustafson (get one from the library or go jot some places down at Barnes/Nobles), or... buy the book and take it with you for reference.
There is no one place that is close to all the sights - you are in an inner arrondissement and that is about as central as you can get.

Many Thanks for the advice guys. I don%26#39;t mind about the size of the rooms. We plan to be out walking as much as possible. I%26#39;ll check out the restaurant reviews suggested as well. Can%26#39;t wait to be in Paris again but withe man I love for the first time. :))

I dunno, travelnutty...
I kinda like %26quot;Macabre Mutilate%26quot;
How about Severe Babbling? Cavalry Fillies? Guard the Lion? The Gobbling? Pearly Chase?
Anyone want to chime in?

Since I speak very little French, the names of streets and metro stations mean little unless I create a mnemonic device to remember it: Cardinal Lemon, Mange, Rasputin, Odious, Tobacco, Clunky, Raviolli, Pig Alley (per GI%26#39;s from the Liberation), Abcess, Ill City...
Rues:
Severe, Ancient Comedy, Cartesian, Mustard, Pot 4, Grand August...well the list is endless.

TOO funny!!

Well, I am undoubtedly late in this post but I adore this hotel. It is friendly if you give it a chance and the staff is very helpful. They have worked there forever. For just a nice quick lunch or dinner [if you are presse%26#39;!] try Pizza Roma or the Petite Perigoudine Brasserie at the corner. Marc there speaks English and is really very kind. The food is good at both places. On Rue Mouftarde, there is Le Coq Agile for authentic French dining at moderate prices. The owner is the cook!
I have been travelling to the area for 10 years and always at this hotel. They have earned my respect and my business. If you need a larger room, ask for a triple and pay a bit more. Its the singel rooms that are tiny. I%26#39;m from Texas so this may not pertain to your preferences!
This area is fab for travellers and the market one block away is always a facorite for shopping bargais and photos.
Bon Voyage!

I like Jack%26#39;s system! though for newbies it would be a bit confusing... but I had fun trying to puzzle out what was what.

Really terrific hotel. The manager is very helpful.
The hotel is also great with groups.
I took a group of 30 there--mixed kids and adults. The hotel was very accommodating and everyone loved it.

I just need to clarify - are these rooms each with their own bath? Is there a metro nearby, or is it just best to use a taxi - to go to the Louvre, Eiffle, Arc, etc.? Thanks for any further info on this hotel.
