Okay everyone, I need some advice! Arriving in Paris at 7:20a.m. on Tues, 20th after an all night flight. Staying in the 12th arr. What might we do during the day (the people we will be traveling with don%26#39;t arrive until late in the afternoon-different flight!) Also after a rest after getting checked in, what would be a good area to explore in the evening? Day 2 - Morning tour of the sights with a guide. Then we have the choice of going to Versailles at 1:00p.m. for a half day tour at $100 per person. I thought this was alittle high as I have read that you can do the Versailles thing on our own for alot less. Thought this could be done by ourselves (if it is feasible) to go on a day when we could get there when it opens. If we don%26#39;t go on day 2 tour what would be a good area to explore. Day 3 - Open during the day. We have a dinner and Boat cruise on this evening. Day 4 - a trip to Normandy. I believe this is a full excursion. Day 5 - Completely open. Day 6 - Off to Avignon %26amp; beyond! We are not big museum poeple but I do want to see the Louve and ND. I really want to walk the streets of Paris and just sight see. But again, I don%26#39;t want to miss out on places I should really take in. I want to go to the Latin Quarter and to the highest point in Paris. Of course the E. Tower is a must see. If someone out there could help me with an iternery I would be forever grateful as this is my FIRST time to Paris or anywhere in Europe. I am getting so excited yet so confused from everything I have read on TA. I have been on this website for the pass month and I have learned alot, but it is still greek to me when it comes to all the names everyone throws out there regarding streets and etc. Thanks for any HELP you can give me.

Hey Gal -
Tuesday the 20th of what?
I think that you really must read a good guide book so you can choose the sights that most interest you. I use the Rough Guide and Rick Steves%26#39; Europe Through the Back Door. Another one to think about is Steves%26#39; Europe 101 which gives a good overview of history and the arts. If you are unable to find them locally, the Steves books can be ordered from his web site www.ricksteves.com.
You say that you%26#39;re not really a museum person, but there are some very interesting museums in Paris, places that cover surprising subjects. Those are the things you need a good guidebook for.
Bon Voyage.

Hi.
For information on a trip to Versailles, try the following website :
http://www.chateauversailles.fr/en/
Follow the link on the Versailles site above to find details of the %26#39;Transilien ticket package%26#39; which offers a combined rail and entrance ticket to Versailles from Paris. The Versailles site is available in English, but the Transilien site is in French, (don%26#39;t worry , it%26#39;s mainly just about ticket prices and very easy to understand).
Transilien ticket packages are available from SNCF stations and from the Espace du Tourisme Ile-de-France in the Carrousel of the Louvre. Remember that under-18s get in free to Versailles should that apply to any of your party.
Things that can be easliy fitted into one day%26#39;s sightseeing in Paris:
*Start off at Cite Metro and go to Notre Dame - you will save time, (and your legs), if you don%26#39;t do the climb up the tower
*Then walk across the Seine towards the Louvre. Check out the website for information and directions:
www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home_flash.jsp…
*After lunch, (several reasonably priced restaurants nearby), either take the Metro to the Eiffel tower - website: http://www.tour-eiffel.fr/teiffel/uk/ or head towards one of the following Metro stations: Anvers, Abbesses, Château-Rouge, Lamarck-Caulaincourt to visit the Sacre Coeur and Montmartre.
Buy a guide book that contains a street map and Metro guide for central Paris to help you get around - the Metro system is quite easy to use once you%26#39;ve got the hang of it.
Hope this helps.

Set a few hours to go to the Catacombs (http://triggur.org/cata/) you will be glad you did! It is also something that you can guaruntee your friends haven%26#39;t been to see.

Thanks everyone for all the advise. I will be buying a guide book really soon. We leave on June 19th so I have a few weeks yet to put things together.
