Is 4 days enough for Paris?

I know 40 days probably isn%26#39;t enough, but will 4.5 full days be enough to see the highlights in Paris? My husband and I would like to go to Paris for the first time, our friends are getting married there so that will take 1 day, but we%26#39;ll have 4.5 days to see the sites. We are about to book it, but any comments are welcome! .

A week is better, if it is at all possible.

Yes and no, but since 4 1/2 days is what you have it is a good start. Might I suggest that you do a search on the search function for %26quot;itinerary%26quot; as a lot of people ask for others to comment on their planned itinerary and also just trawl back over the forum past pages for posts that ask questions along the lines of %26quot;only X days in paris%26quot; as they have a lot of suggestions for things to see and do and priorities. My own No 1 priority is to walk around the very central areas of the Ile de la Cite, Ile St Louis, the area of the Marais in the 4th arrondissement and the 5th and 6th arrondissements near the Seine and do not miss Sainte Chapelle in the Palais de Justice on Ile de la Cite. Also consider a 2 day (25 Euros for one day and 28 for 2) l%26#39;Opentour bus ticket to take you to the main attractions

and the batobus tours on the seine

Indeed, a whole life is not enough to see everything in Paris. I%26#39;ve been living here for 30 years, and I still discover places.

But a 4 1/2 days trip will be enough to discover the place, and will give you many good reasons to come back.

The neighbourhood others told you about are fine, but I would suggest a 1/2 walk in a typical Parisian place (try Belleville, la Villett, the canals, or the hidden streets of the 14th district).

I%26#39;ve seen on TV last week that a company propses a GPS self guided tours :

www.digi-guide.com./uk

and they have an add on TA Maps. It sounds interesting as they propose a huge variety of walks (if you like walking). Didn%26#39;t try it yet (of course, I wouldn%26#39;t need it as I live here), but the TV presenter who tried it said that it was very fun.

But really, try one of those hidden places tourists never go to, even if it is your first time in Paris, and you will then know that Paris is not just a city of the 19th century.

My one and only trip to Paris so far was 3.5 days, and I feel like we saw most of the highlights. Another day would have been perfect for an introductary trip.

As a previous post stated, you%26#39;ll get a taste and make a list of all the things you want to return and see.

I wish I could go back and stay a month!!!

You%26#39;re right -- 4 days is not nearly enough time in Paris. However, it%26#39;s enough for a first trip, as Paris can be overwhelming, with so much to do.

My advice would be to have a rough itinerary, so you don%26#39;t waste time figuring out what to do once you%26#39;re there. But, as many others will advise you, leave enough flexibility for relaxing at a cafe, or strolling along the Seine, or buying a bottle of wine and some cheese and having a picnic, or exploring side streets, or finding your own ways to enjoy Paris.

It%26#39;s a beautiful city and there%26#39;s much to love besides the museums and monuments.

Hi

Well, you can cover the main places in 4 days but a week is of course better :-) My wife and I stayed 10 days the first time we went to Paris and it was nice to be able to see a lot of stuff without really having to rush around. One of the pleasures in Paris is just walking around looking at places like Place de la Concorde, the Seine, the beautiful bridges etc. Hope you will have a great stay in Paris :-)

We stayed 5 days when we went a few years ago. We stayed in the Marais district, so just walking through the neighborhood was a treat. We spent a full day at Versailles, had dinner at the Eiffel tower, went on a river cruise, visited Notre-dame, the Latin quarter, Monmarte and Bastille. We booked some of the things we did with Paris vision, a tour agency, becouse we did not have alot of time and wanted to see as much as possible. I am shure there is much more to do and I would love to go again. You certainly won%26#39;t regret any time spent there!

4½ days will be precisely enough to make you cry like a baby when you have to leave - the CDG airport police will have to drag you into your airplane and you will be scratching the airplane windows till your fingernails bleed....... NOOOOOO, I DON%26#39;T WANT TO GO HOME !!!! PLEASE LET ME STAY HERE !!! WOUAHHHH !!!!!!

Paris is like malaria fever - you will never get rid of it as long as you live and it will attack you when you least expect it - and you%26#39;ll know that you just have to go back - again and again and again.......

My personal take is that 4.5 days is just right at one time. We go to Paris every year and that is about how long I like to stay. We%26#39;re leaving for France this afternoon and are spending 6 weeks there. So we could spend as much time in Paris as we like, but we decided to stay for four nights.

The key thing here, I think, is to accept that you cannot possibly see everything in 4.5 days, so you will need to decide what it is you really want to see. Is it the %26quot;brand name%26quot; tourist sites that interest you most - the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Élysées, and so on? Or are you real art lovers and more interested in seeing as much as you can of the world%26#39;s most magnificent art collection (arguably) without exhausting yourselves? Or do you want a mix?

Give us an idea of what you really want to se and we%26#39;ll help you construct a good itinerary around your personal preferences.

One thinig I urge you not to miss under any circumstances is the Sainte Chapelle, which is, IMO, the single most stunningly beautiful building in France.

And the other thing is that I hope you will not try to fill your 4.5 days with %26quot;must see%26quot; sites. If you are going to mget the most out of your short visit, you really need to take part of every day you are there just to relax - sitting in a café, strolling along the Seine, or whatever - and experience the city and its people, not just the sights.
