Drive from Avignon to Nice

First, thanks for all the tips about Nice in this forum!

On a June, Tuesday morning, how long will it take to drive from Avignon to Nice ? I am planning my trip and I am concerned because I have a plane to catch in Nice at 1:00pm. So I have to allocate time for any inconvenience like congested roads, or queue to return the car. Any help please?

Also, is there toll and speed traps along the way?

somewhere around 3-1/2 hours by the autoroute. Go to mappy.com or viamichelin.com to get specific estimates and mention of where you would pay tolls and where the regular radar machines watch for you.

Since you need to check in for your flight one hour in advance, you%26#39;ll need to factor that in, along with the time for returning a car.

You%26#39;ll probably need to leave Avignon around 8 a.m.

If you are checking in for a flight to Brazil, even if the first leg is to Paris or somewhere else, you need to allow more than an hour before your flight time. In these days of tight security, even in a relatively small airport, I%26#39;d suggest 90 minutes for a short-hop flight, at least 2 hours if you are beginning a trip home.

All things considered, you might want to drive to Nice and dump your car on Monday and stay overnight in Nice. Then you%26#39;d have an easy bus (or even a taxi) ride to the airport on Tuesday morning and no car drop-off to deal with. I%26#39;m all about reducing stress to the minimum on such occasions.

But you *could* do it from Aix if you%26#39;d rather...

Sorry, I meant Avignon, not Aix, of course.

And BTW, you could dump your car in Avignon and take the train to Nice on Monday, making life even easier, IMO...

Irishrovr is definitely right on. Getting to Nice Monday evening or even in the afternoon would give you the opportunity to spend a relaxing evening in Nice, and then get to the Airport without a sweat. There are a number of reasonable hotels around the airport, that have transportation to the airport. You could taxi into town Monday evening, and know that you wouldn%26#39;t have to get up in the middle of the night to get to Nice on time. Relax and enjoy!

These are good ideas...and the Novotel Aréanas is just across the street from the airport and offers shuttle service if you don%26#39;t want to walk.

Thanks a lot for the tips and the website links.

Now I can plan the trip better.
