Anyone driven from Paris to the south?

Hello! My husband and I are trying to decide to whether to take the train from Paris to Barcelona or to drive in a rental car. Has anyone done either?

Thanks!

Hi,

I did it many times (Paris to Fuengirola via Barcelona). In the past, as the viaduc de Millau was not built yet, the route was very long and tiring. I think that now, it should be easier. But there are still 1000 kms, which is a long trip (for Europe I mean).

Also consider that in Paris, car parking is not that easy. You may probably have to park it outside the city, or find a hotel with parking.

If I were you, I%26#39;d take the plane. Fares on Air Europa are very afordable if you take your tickets in advance. A friend of mine who lives in Barcelona found Air Europa tickets to Paris for just 90 €, what is less than a car or even the train.

I%26#39;ve taken the train in each direction -- it%26#39;s a long distance and the Spanish Trenhotel is a comfortable way to go - the trip takes about 12 hours - I believe it is overnight westbound -

We%26#39;ve done it, but we break the trip up in two or three days. For us it has been great, because we use the opportunity to stop and sightsee along the way.

The 1-way drop-off charge of the car rental car is probably enough to buy an air ticket.

bibimbob has hit the nail on the head. Unless you are going to do as phread suggests and take several days to see something more than 1000km or so of concrete ribbon, AND return to France to drop off your car, I think a budget airline is the way to go. EasyJet flies from Orly to BCN, Vueling from CDG.

Flying gets my vote.

The high cost of fuel will make the driving trip very expensive, and although flight prices have been affected by the worldwide increase in fuel prices, it%26#39;s still a better option.

Unleaded petrol is 1.27 Euro per litre and diesel is 1.09 Euro per litre, at the moment.

Thanks everyone!
