I%26#39;m headed to Nice at the end of June and planning to rent a car to see some of Western Provence for 4 -5 days. I%26#39;ll be finishing up my stay for another 7 nights in Nice.
Right now I%26#39;m planning to get a car at the airport and drive out to Avignon. Anyone else done this type of thing? I%26#39;m concerned that it may be hard to manage with the jet lag and all. I%26#39;m coming in from the USA.
I%26#39;d like to drop the car off in Nice instead of at the airport but I can%26#39;t seem to find a drop off place close enough to where I%26#39;m staying, at the Hotel Suisse. I%26#39;d like to hear what others have experienced. Thanks.

Fatigue is such an individual matter, that I doubt that you can get good advice as to what kind of shape you%26#39;ll be in when you arrive.
Maybe you can do Nice first, spending a night near the airport at the end. When flying out of Nice we%26#39;ve stayed in St Paul de Vence the night before; about 20 minutes to the airport. Or, spend a night near the airport when you arrive.
What company are you using for car rental? The train station is a possible drop off point, taking a cab from there.

I%26#39;d be leery of driving across to Avignon after a long flight; much better to stay in Nice (the Novotel across from the airport is good, and there%26#39;s a shuttle) and head out the following morning. That will allow you to have a good night%26#39;s sleep and enjoy the trip.
If you were to rent your car from autoeurope.com you would most likely have Europecar as the rental agency; there%26#39;s an office about a 10-minute walk from the Hôtel Suisse, just behind Le Meridien.

I too think you would be better to take 24 hours to get over your jet lag before venturing out in a strange car on strange roads.
You might want to think about dropping your car in Avignon at the TGV station and taking the train back to Nice. You won%26#39;t lose any time by doing this and you won%26#39;t have to worry about dropping your car in Nice.

M%26amp;M,
I agree with the others that it%26#39;s better to travel to Nice by train from the airport and pick up your rental car at least 24 hours later.
The place is foreign to you, u%26#39;re jet-lagged and have to fumble with the map at the same time, doesn%26#39;t sound like a good idea.
We%26#39;ll travel to France this July too, we%26#39;ll take the TGV to Lyon, stay in Lyon for one nite before getting our rental car for Annecy and Chamonix.

Thanks to all for your advice.
Underhill, is that office at 3 Avenue Gustave V? Any suggestions for a reasonably priced hotel near that location for one night?
My husband is in favor of spending the one night in NIce and then travelling on. We still like the idea of returning to Nice and finishing the trip off there at the Suisse.
One other question, Aix-en-Provence seems like a very attractive place. I know it%26#39;s all relative to tastes but how does it compare to Avignon?
|||
Yep: that%26#39;s the address.
A moderately priced hotel nearby would be the Mercure Promenade des Anglais--at least, that%26#39;s the only one I can think of. Others may have additional suggestions. What you want is the area near the Parc Prince Albert.

Thanks Underhill.
Does anyone else know of a hotel close to a car rental place?
