home from Paris--thanks AnneParis, Phread and gang

This may now be my favorite big city in Europe. We were grandparents taking 2 pre-teens and had a ball. We found the city to br remarkably clean, welcoming, and easy to get around in once you take a little time to study the metro chart since there are so many connections. The Eiffel Tower had to be our favorite--day and night although we got great pics from the top of the Arc de Triumphe. Warning--don%26#39;t use old tour books. We were in Europe last year and had Rick Steves%26#39;s book. We didn%26#39;t hit Paris so I tore out the pages to use for this year. Museum hours and days had changed--so wasted some precious time there. Used metro all but once, when we took an RER--don%26#39;t recommend that. Metro is much nicer. After seeing two groups get separated when Metro doors closed before everyone was one, I might suggest you make a plan as to what you would do if that happened to you. We just always made sure one adult and one kid got on together quickly. We also used the Batobus when we wanted to relax and see views, but weren%26#39;t in a hurry. Very nice. Anne put together our trip to the Fair Museum and that was another highlight. Meeting other TA people, the great job you did of interpreting for us, meeting Maya, and having drinks and ice cream afterwards. What a treat. Itt was a chance to see a part of Paris that most tourists would not. Wish we had time to shop in Bercy. And thanks to our TA partner from Florida, we got right to St. Chapelle and Notre Dame, no problem. We finally found one of the recommended restaurants in Paris and it was marvelous. We were lucky to get in as they were completely booked, but there was one table not arriving til 9:15, so if we promised to be done we could eat there--scrumptious. If you have children, our hotel had a pool and they only made it swimming once since we were so busy, but they loved it. We would definitely return to Paris. We barely scratched the surface of what there is to see.

Wow you are already back in the states. Was very nice to meet you all. I am glad you had a nice time. I agree with you about making a plan for the metro if you get separated . Is easy to do at rush hour. Glad you made it to St Chapelle okay.

Maya had a wonderful time with your granddaughters and I was really impressed with their positive attitude. Thank you for the ice cream!

That was a great museum, wasn%26#39;t it? Thanks Morgan and Phread for the translations and to Anne for arranging the tour. Unfortunately my sisters and myself weren%26#39;t able to stay for the icecream but we sure enjoyed the %26quot;horse race%26quot; and the %26quot;bicycle ride%26quot;.

We just arrived home yesterday - exhausted but extremely happy with the great trip that we had. Meeting the other forum member at the museum as well as Vickie and Bruce at the dinner the evening before is something that we will remember for a long time.

Which hotel did you stay at that had a hotel. Was it very exspensive( I have heard that hotels with pools are rare and usaully around 5oo euros a night!?

Joan, I am not sure where alibubba stayed, but the Hotel Novotel in the 15th has a pool and is in the 200E range.

It is especially cost effective for families, as kids usually stay free. You can get a quad for the price of a double.

That%26#39;s exactly where we stayed Phread. The girls thought it was the best. The metro is only a few blocks away toward the Eiffel tower and we took it everywhere we went except when we rode the batobus, so no problem getting anywhere. Totally safe neighborhood. Great place to go across the bridge to the left of the hotel and view the blinking lights on the Eiffel Tower after 10:00.
