I am going to the Monaco Grand Prix on 28th May and staying in Nice. Does anyone have any advice about travel to and from Monaco on race day? Is it easy to eat and drink in Monaco before and after the race? Thanks!

You go there and back again by train.
It is no problem. It may be crowded.
You may stumble into even bigger crowds once in Monaco.
The sure bet for eating is, as so often, Nice itself.

Thanks Niklas B, what time would you recommend leaving Nice on race day? I wonder whether to hope to get lunch in Monaco or should we bring a picnic? Should we just snack until we get back to Nice? Also, do we need to buy train tickets in advance for race day? We will be in Nice from Wednesday 24th. Sorry to bombard you with so many questions!

I would buy my train tickets for the grand prix weekend as soon as I could, as the train station is pandemonium on race day.

Thanks, will do. My wife is visiting Nice this weekend so I will ask her to get us tickets (when she has finished shopping with her friends of course). Thanks for your help.

can you find out from your wife what kind of transportation services are available from Eze to the race.
is it advisible to drive there or go to Nice and then take a train to Monaco...

Would highly recommend that you
a) get to Monaco as early as possible because it will be manic on race day
b) buy your tickets in advance as the queues at Nice Gare stn can be ridiculous at the best of times (NB the ticket machines don%26#39;t take notes so make sure you have change or your credit card). Should cost you about 6 euros for a return
c) take food with you or eat before you leave Nice. You%26#39;ll probably be able to buy food from vendors on the street, but you might as well be prepared. Restaurants will be very busy
Monaco is only 20 mins by train from Nice. Nyceboy17, I think your best bet is to jump on the train as well. Only about 10mins,
Have fun!

Yes, I think we will have a good early breakfast and take some food with us just in case. Eze to Nice, I%26#39;m not sure but if I find anything out I will let you know. I understand earplugs are mandatory (I have never been to a Grand Prix before)!

thanks for all the help...
my best bet is to drive to Nice from Eze and then take the train, but if someone knows a better way from Eze to Monaco.
As far a food, it is not a problem, been to Nice 2 years ago and know what is available. As far as race day food, I have been attending the Montreal GP on a yearly basis and know what is available at the race. Last year even went to Silverstone GP race and had same food experience as in Montreal. Transportation to Silverstone from London where terrible, over 2 hours of trains, buses and then walking...
looking forward to Monaco, and hoping for good weather and a great race...

Hi all! Further to queries on food at the Grand Prix - is it possible to book and eat at a restaurant which has views of the race, and if so is it very expensive? Also is it possible to purchase tickets for the race on the day? Many thanks in advance...........!

As someone who attended the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours in 2001, for my first grand prix, may I suggest that you arrive earlier than you had initially planned. I had a general admission ticket and arrived before noon on raceday. What shocked me was the number of people who constructed chairs and other ways to sit in the general area (which was no more than a raised grass hill with cement blocks). I ended up standing for the race at the top of the hill finding space between ladders with seats on them. Eat well before you go, and take a snack if you can as I found very little food offered around that day. Monaco may be a completely different story being in a city, but I would recommend buying advance tickets as noted by others and getting there way ahead of time. Enjoy the race. I am a little surprised that there are tickets still left. It will be a memorable event.
