Walking to Villefrance

Following on from my question of last week, when I set off for Villefrance I obviously walk down by the harbour but which road do i then take, have never ventured past the harbour on foot before.

A walk from Nice harbour to Villefrance is not the most intresting I%26#39;m afraid.

When you stay close to the coast you need to follow a quite busy road.

You can see a lot of information on google-earth.

I saw there%26#39;s no special path for walkers.

You have a choice thow o leave Nice - the low road or the high road.

The low road

If you follow the harbour right round its U-shape to where the ferries dock (Gare Maritime) , just before there are some steps at the Nice Yatch Club up to the Boulevard Frank Pilatte, which road is less busy and beautiful views and villas which will take you to the Col de Villefranche, where you will join the more busy but quicker %26quot;high road%26quot;.

The High Road

This is the Rourte RN98 Boulevard Carnot, which you take from the corner of the Ile de Beaute at the Port. a lot of traffic whizzes past as its the main car route out of Nice to the Corniche Inferieur to Villefranche.

Personally I prefer the slower and quieter low road, but obviously its a litle longer.

At the junction at Col de Villefranche - see the bizarre English pink folly the %26quot;Chateau Anglais%26quot;, then on around the Cap de Nice past the Palais Maetterlinck - impossibly expensive %26quot;Luxury Hotels of the world%26quot;

As you turn the bend you lose sight of Nice and Cap Ferrat comes into view, the road changes to the Boulevard Princess Grace.

Just before you hit Villefranche, past the Hotel de Versailles and another, by the Chemin de Darse, you%26#39;ll find the Escalliers de 24me, steps down to Villefranches Port Darse. Its easy to miss if you don%26#39;t know its there.

Follow round the Citadelle d%26#39;Elme and hit Villefranche main.

Et Voila!

Enjoy.
