Hey everyone, My sister and I (18 and 24)are planning a trip to Paris this August, and I know its tourist season, but I was wondering if there are still stores/restaurants open that have the Parisian %26quot;je n%26#39;ai sais qoui%26quot; during that time. We%26#39;re staying at Le Fauconnier (sp?), small hotel part of the MEJI hotel corp. Also does anyone have any advice on where to go and what to do, that won%26#39;t be around too many tourists? We%26#39;ll be hitting up all the Paris hits on tour anyway, and I was wondering if there are secret places to visit in Paris, or at least not that well known but great anyway, type of places. Also we%26#39;re only stayin for about two days, and she and I are also planning to stay in Versailles for a daytrip.

Some days ago one of the %26#39;regulars%26#39; on this forum posted a few wonderful %26quot;secrets%26quot; - do a search on this forum with search words %26quot;3 gems from the secret Paris treasure-box%26quot;, and you%26#39;ll find them.
But of course, once such %26quot;secrets%26quot; are revealed on a forum such as this one, they%26#39;re a bit less secret and you run the %26quot;risk%26quot; of seeing tourists there (like anywhere in Paris)...
I%26#39;m not sure that avoiding other tourists is the best policy - better find things that interest you, regardless of how little or many tourists go there. Get a guide book - that will offer many suggestions!
Some ideas: the Institute du Monde Arabe, the Catacombes, the Musée Fragonard (perfume museum), a climb on the Arc de Triomphe, the Cité des Sciences et de l%26#39;industrie, the Musée de la Mode (rue Rivoli), ice cream at Berthillot on the Ile St. Louis (a few steps from the rue Fauconnier)... it all depends on what interests you.
By the way, the Fauconnier is more of a hostel than a hotel (don%26#39;t expect too much). But it is located very centrally, close to the Seine, in a very old building.

If you are in Paris for only two days, and one of them you intend to spend at Versailles, you won%26#39;t have time to hit the %26quot;Paris hits%26quot; AND get off the beaten path.

Go to Sacre Couer/Montmarte area...Excellent area - sightseeing and all! Metro Stop = Anvers. Great souvenir and bargain shopping.
Check out the movie %26quot;Amelie%26quot; before you go to Paris. The restaurant is around that area. Great movie too!!!

Hi BXtrekker....my friend and I will also be in Paris for a short time. To hit %26quot;high points%26quot; as well as %26quot;something different%26quot; we%26#39;re doing, among other things, a Fat Bikes Tour Walking Tour (check out their website...great stuff to choose from...we%26#39;re doing the Classic and Montmartre walks). And, for something a litte different we%26#39;re taking a canal tour (not a Seine tour...although we%26#39;re doing that, too). But a canal tour is %26quot;supposed%26quot; to give you a different look at Paris. If you%26#39;re interested, check out

Hey guys thanks for your sugggestions. I know that the two days won%26#39;t be enough to soak in the %26quot;paris hits%26quot; but what my sister and I were trying to accomplish is to just soak it as much as possible, and if we like what we%26#39;ve seen, we%26#39;re going to come back and stay for a week or two over my winter break in january some year (hopefully in time for les soldes). Get one of those infamous apartment stays. I%26#39;ll definately check out that Paris %26quot;secrets%26quot; you%26#39;ve mentioned.

I look forward to your trip report on your two day trip BXT

JanToo (or anyone else who knows) - this ice cream place on Ile St. Louis. I%26#39;ve heard about it so much so I%26#39;ll have to be sure to try it when I go in September. Where is it on the island? Is it at the end closer to the Notre Dame or the Eastern end? Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Curious, Berthillon is at 31 Rue St.-Louis-en-l%26#39;Île right in the centre of Ile St Louis, if coming across Pont Marie from the right bank, turn left and it is a couple of doors down. I also saw it for sale at a place just across from the bridge that goes across to the Ile de la Cite but the original is the one at No 31

Faux, many thanks to you. I%26#39;ll definitely go and indulge myself. :o)
