Hello all,
My boyfriend and I are traveling to London for a friend%26#39;s wedding. Unfortunately we will not have enough time to stay overnight however we are planning a day trip. We would like to take the Eurostar over and were looking for some ideas for sample itineraries and maybe a cafe or eatery that we should visit.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hello,
Some years ago I travelled on Eurostar and as I remember there are some restos on the railway stations and you can eat on the train also.
I think it would be better to spend the night there, too, because that travel will be tiring (for me it was) and that marriage worth it, too.
If you take the Eurostar it seems to me that you have time though...
Have a good time!

I have not yet been to Paris (going in Sep on my honeymoon). But, having been to London (spent two weeks there last year), I can tell you that there is so much to do and see in London. From everything I have read on this board, you would barely scratch the surface of Paris, and I am not sure that you would even get your money%26#39;s worth to pay the $120 p/p for the Eurostar just to be in Paris a few hours, only to then have to turn around and go back.
If you do go, I hope you enjoy yourself. I know that I am really looking forward to my trip to Paris. My advice, for whatever it is worth, is to stay in London and take in everything you can about it, and plan another, full scale trip to Paris when you have more time.

If you want to go to Paris go for it. Last year we went for lunch, our anniversary. We got the 8.20am train, it was a little delayed. Metro to our restaurant at the bottom of the Champs Elysees. A long lunch (main purpose of visit), stroll back down the Champs, across to Tuilleries stroll through there, trip on the wheel, onto Notre Dame and back home on the 17.30. So if you stay later and spend less time on lunch you could also put either the Arc or the Tower in. It is a wonderful day out and gives a lovely taste of Paris. I must add that as we live in the south of England we are very use to going to France for the day to shop or have lunch so maybe that is why we do not find it a strange idea. Have fun

Following is a basic framework that may useful, at least in part.
You’ll be arriving at the Gare du Nord. Exit the station from the northeast door and board the 42 city bus. You can buy tickets from the driver. Get off at the Eiffel Tower.
After some time here, walk to the Seine and to the left and board the Batobus [www.batobus.com]. This is a water taxi making various stops, and the web site [and brochurre you will be given] will give various ideas as to what to see and do.
You will want to get down to the Ile de la Cite at some point, where Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle are located.
Getting back to the Gare you have three choices: taxi, city bus or Metro [subway].
Print out these two maps for the Cite and St. Michel Metro stations. Both have only one line. Board the train going in the direction of Porte de Cignancourt. The maps also show stops for the 38 bus [direction Gare du Nord].

Cabs are available at taxi stands, they are not hailed.

this looks great...and now for a quick bite in a cafe..any recommendations?

A cafe recommendation is tough not knowing exactly where you will be at a given time. The batobus website has several recommendations [click on the various stops].
I failed to point out the route of the 42 bus and some of the sights along the way. After passing the Opera Garnier, you%26#39;ll go by the Madeline then down rue Royal and through the Place de Concorde. Then it%26#39;s up the Champs-Elysses toward the Arc de Triomphe, passing the Petit Palais and the Grand Palais before heading down Avenue Montaigne, and crossing at the Pont de Alma.
