Hotel Close to Car Rental

Many thanks to those who answered my last post about renting a car.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a moderately priced hotel for one night near a car rental office? One address that I have for a rental place is 3 Avenue Gustave V. But I%26#39;m open to other places. One other car rental place that allaboutnice referenced is by the Hotel Suisse close to the port but I can%26#39;t seem to find that address.

So far I%26#39;m looking at the Hotel Regence , the Hotel Massenet, the Mecure Promenade Anglais (thanks Underhill, but a little expensive for one night), and the Hotel Fontaine which look to be pretty close to Gusave V. There%26#39;s a Comfort Hotel near the port but I%26#39;m not sure if that%26#39;s close to a rental car office or not.

Thanks again to all.

Hotel Regence is right in the middle of the Pedestrian area just yards from all the cafes/restaurants etc.

The Regence in my opinion is gvfm, you get whay you pay for, it is clean, the staff are friendly etc. There is a car rental place on the Promenade next to Le Royal, a hotel that I always recommend, prices are 110 euros per night for a double room (extra 35 euros for a seaview). Le Royal and Hotel Massenet are both also within 5 minutes walk of Gustave V.

Thanks Nice-Regular. I appreciate the advice.

The port is down around the far curve of the Promenade des Anglais--not terribly far to walk to the Gustave V address, but not especially close either.

The comfort hotel by the Port in rue Emmanuel Philibert is modern, basic and clean, no real character but the rooms are a good size for france, breakfast is help yourself buffet, not wonderful but ok, in good location for the old town, bus station and very handy for the Port - boat trips, restaurants ets, handy bus stop right by Port church for the 100 bus to Monaco etc and very close to a car hire place. It%26#39;s not bad for the price.

The car hire place has changed names recently now called %26quot;rent and drive%26quot; I think, but it is the same friendly staff - A young man called Olivier is very helpful and speaks very good english and makes the whole process very easy and hassle-free. The cars are parked opposite the car rental in the Port and you can keep the cars here for free- the port chap at the barrier, lets you in when he sees the rental sticker on the car. We have used this place several times now and have always been pleased witht he service. the only draw-backs are the opening times, unlike the airport, they are closed Sundays and close for a long lunch too during the week. After hoursreturn you can arrange with Olivier to drop keys off at a local restaurant further down the road.

The address for the car hire is 10 quai papacino. From the Comfort Port hotel, walk past the veg restaurant La Zucca Magica and past Florian sweet factory, the car rental is next door (I think) to an estate agents - Haussmann immobilier or something similar, it%26#39;s about 4 mins walk from the Comfort. If you don%26#39;t want to park in the Port car park for free, the comfort hotel will charge you a small fee to use their underground car park under the hotel.the tel number for the car rental place is :

04 93 56 45 50 and the fax is

04 93 26 91 76

by the way m%26amp;m56, I was in Nice with a friend this week and I was most upset to find that La Becasse has closed down, I hope someone will open it up soon as a restarant again, a shame to lose that courtyard. It was always full, I wonder what happened.

allaboutNice, Thanks for all the detailed information. I%26#39;ll try calling them about their rates. Everyone advises to reserve a car in advance so we%26#39;ll see how it goes.

Too bad about La Becasse. I hope Chez Juliette is still around!

Chez Juliette still around, thank goodness.

I just remembered some useful info. If you decide to go for the Comfort Port Hotel, then there%26#39;s a new bus service from the airport to the Port. It%26#39;s the 99 express bus which runs between the airport and the train station. From 17th June , it will continue on from the train station to the Port so it would be very convenient for the Comfort Hotel, only a minute or two walk. The info link is here:

best wishes
