Shopping!

Hello!

We%26#39;re off to Paris next weekend and I%26#39;m very excited. I%26#39;ve been looking at the guidebook we%26#39;ve picked up (Frommers) and it has a fairly detailed section on Parisian shopping although it unfortunately seems to concentrate mainly on designer boutiques and department store. I wondered if anybody had any suggestions of areas of Paris containing shops that are a bit more quirky and unique - similar to those in London%26#39;s Camden and New York%26#39;s East Village.

Thanks for your help!

Port de Clignoncort!? I see that is in the 18th arr? Is that a trendy spot for shopping? What else is going on in that area? I have also heard the bohos and the nohos are now heading to the 10th arr, another lesser known (to me) area!

At this market who actually have another name that its more famous for but I always say P d C because thats what my boyfirend and friends in paris use, just like they would not say Charles de Gaulle but ¨Roissy, based on the area its in.

This market has everything, from old antiques to to modern pirate copies of Gucci and YSL. Many of the fine antiques dealers in Paris go there to buy and then they sell it off much more expensive in the center.

I would only go to the area for the market, else there is not much to see, there are some touristy but okey restaurants and stolls in the area aswell!

Clignancourt is the largest flea market in Europe. It is HUGE and has areas for cheap knock offs, African imports and antiques. Many of the Antique dealers at Clignancourt (Marceh St Ouen is the official name) also have shops within the city of Paris.

For quirky, local designer stuff I like to go to Montmartre around the Abesses metro, or the Marais along the rue des Francs Bourgeois and the rue des Rosiers.
