Ferry Nice to Bastia

Hi, I am about to book a ferry from Nice to Bastia in July however the arrival time is 7:30pm. Can anyone give me some advise on transportation from the ferry drop-off in Bastia to the center on the evening? I%26#39;m hoping to avoid any long expensive taxi rides. Also if anyone has any information on the cheapest accomodation in Bastia and car hire that would be great.

Do you want the good news or the bad news first?

The ferry arrives very close to the centre of Bastia and it is literally walking distance to one or two inexpensive hotels which you can probably track down on this site or laterooms. Not the prettiest area of the island but you%26#39;ll be able to have a fun meal nearby.

The bad news is that the car hire places (Hertz and Europcar within walking distance of the ferry as well) tend to shut rather early and I doubt if they%26#39;ll be open that late. My advice would be to find yourself a cheap hotel that night and get your (pre-booked) car the next day - saving a day of car hire into the bargain! Have a great holiday.

Thanks for the advise! Glad to hear the centers within walking distance. Do you happen to know of any websites through which I would be able to pre-book a car?

Our personal car hire favourite is www.holidayautos.co.uk. A quick dip there gives an air-conditioned Astra for a week as £140.

Vicky, we always go to Holiday Autos or Carentals and book the lowest spec car on the list, and we always end up getting something better. Last time I went (May 06) I used Carrentals - booked the cheapest car on their list and got an air-conditioned Renault Scenic at no extra cost. I don%26#39;t think there are any non-air-conditioned cars on the island.

It%26#39;s worth noting that if you use one of these companies, you end up collecting the car from Europcar or Hertz (see my last post re proximity to port!)
